Cody Wild West Shootout

Summertime in Cody, Wyoming, is for many tourists and locals a time for walking back in time to the period when cowboys and the Wild West were truly prevalent, when lawlessness and shootouts were the norm. So, the town hosts the annual Cody Wild West Shootout each June, providing insight and excitement to young and old alike.

The annual Cody Wild West Shootout takes place every June in Cody, Wyoming, drawing in huge crowds of curious tourists, locals and Wild West historians. It is a live re-enactment of the history of a local hotel, the Irma, and memories of the famous Buffalo Bill who founded Cody.

The shootout takes place at the Irma Hotel, a historical landmark that was named in honor of Buffalo Bill's daughter, Irma Cody. It is a national historic treasure that is still actively operating, featuring a restaurant and hotel facilities.

The main shootout occurs at the Cody Shooting Complex. Real cowboys display their skills as gunmen, firing off dummy rounds in a shootout that is both real and historically correct. In fact, the event is completely free.
