Wild West Balloon Festival
There is nothing on earth like seeing the grand vistas offered by a trip through Yellowstone National Park. Unless of course, you can see the area while hovering above in a hot air balloon. Visitors are afforded just that opportunity at the Wild West Balloon Fest, every August in Cody, Wyoming.
The Wild West Balloon Fest draws ballooners from all over the country for a unique festival and competition set in a breathtaking arena. The festival, which takes place the first weekend in August, kicks off with an evening balloon glow. To allow the balloon to take flight, giant flames feed the colorful balloon envelope with heated air. As the envelope engorges and drifts into the night sky, colors are thrown into the gathering darkness like fireworks.
A balloon glow is a sight to behold, but nothing can compare to the rush of being in the balloon gondola as it quietly begins to drift above the earth, so make sure you don't miss out on the opportunity. Once in the air, the balloon quickly ascends, until you realize you are in the hands of Mother Nature and your experienced pilot.
