Wyoming Hunting
Come to Wyoming and enjoy some of the finest big game hunting in the western United States!
With its variety of big game animals including elk, moose, mule deer, antelope and big horn sheep, a trip to Wyoming would not be complete without a hunting experience.
EXCEPTIONAL ELK QUALITY
Quality archery hunts for elk come into effect when archery season begins, generally in September, with rifle season running from September through October.
Wyoming offers some of the highest bull to cow ratios. It is one of the few places in the country where you can hunt elk with a rifle right in the midst of the rut during the peak of the bugling season. And often there are extremely accessible resident herds of elk to hunt, thereby freeing hunters from migrational patterns.
Year after year, trophy bulls meet or exceed the expectations of the most seasoned hunter!
GREAT WILDERNESS MOOSE HUNTING
Wyoming has many lakes and rivers and moose find these to their liking. While many prefer river bottoms, moose may also be found at 9,000 feet or higher near a mountain lake.
It is not uncommon for moose to be seen at most times of the year. Some may even venture into town!
The moose population has been building up and there are some tremendous trophy bulls to be hunted.
MULE DEER ARE WYOMING'S MOST ABUNDANT BIG GAME SPECIES
Looking for a trophy buck? Now is the time and Wyoming is the state. Mule deer are Wyoming's most plentiful big game species.
During the hunting season, mule bucks will either be alone or in small bachelor groups, and mostly in some of the real backwoods.
A trophy mule buck will weigh in excess of 200 pounds and can get as large as 300 pounds. With very keen senses, the buck can exhibit an uncanny ability to vanish right in front of you. So hunting a mature mule buck can be a real challenge, but also an extremely rewarding hunt.
ANTELOPE – THE MOST STUNNING MOUNT OF WYOMING"S BIG GAME TROPHIES
Behold the sight of 300 to 500 antelopes per day during hunting season, with a lot of bucks over 15 inches!
Hunting antelope is exciting and challenging. Weighing between 100 to 140 pounds, a trophy buck can: run over 65 miles per hour; smell you from well over a mile if the wind is right; can see you blink from farther away than you can shoot him; and, will usually have at least a dozen or more sets of doe eyes helping him to look for trouble. Which is you, the hunter.
A typical trophy buck will grow horns of at least 14 inches and makes one of the most beautiful mounts of Wyoming's big game trophies.
THE BEST BIG HORN SHEEP
For hunting quality big horn sheep, Wyoming offers the best. Indeed, the largest herd of big horn sheep anywhere winters near Dubois, Wyoming.
Sheep hunting can be one of the most physically demanding hunts of all the North American species. Hunters, therefore, get the most out of their big horn hunting by being in their best physical condition.
LICENSES
Even though hunters must contend with a statewide drawing for licenses, those hunters who are successful can often hunt more than one species at the same time.
Remember, however, to check for updates on a regular basis with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department as regulations are revised periodically.
