Sleeping Giant Ski Area

Sleeping Giant, 50 miles west of Cody and right next door to the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, is one of America's oldest ski areas. Sleeping Giant was organized as a ski area in 1936-1937 and is well known for consistently abundant natural snowfall, with ideal temperatures for skiing and non-existent wind, where the scenery is breathtaking, unsurpassed anywhere on earth.

The mountain's varied terrain allows beginning, intermediate, and advanced skiers the opportunity to develop their skills. The diverse areas of sloping meadows, trails in the trees, and steep slopes offer skiers a well-rounded skiing package. 20% of the terrain for beginners; 60% intermediate; and 20% for advanced skiers.

Snowboarders are welcome on the entire mountain.

The average snowfall is 300"-400" a year (some years they have 800"!) The packed snow base averages 48"-72" during our season. Powder snowboarding is available most of the year.

Two ski lifts rise 600 vertical feet from a base elevation of 6,700 feet. Seventeen trails for all levels of skiing proficiency range up to 3/4 mile in length. In 1993-1994, a chair lift and new day lodge were completed.

Day Lodge and Snack Bar
After spending time on the slopes in the fresh air working up an appetite, come in to our heated day lodge, with it's crackling fireplace, and choose your lunch or snack from our varied menu.
