Cody is host to some of the best whitewater in Wyoming, the classic creeks and rivers in the area are easily overlooked but highly recommended. Cody is one of the few cities in the U.S. with class 2, 3 and 4 runs running right thru town and at least 10 other classic creeks and rivers such as the famous Clarks Fork less then 60 minutes from town.
The Shoshone River runs right thru town and runs year round. Although the winter flows are low, kayakers will be found bumping down the river year round. The Shoshone river is a dam released river and flows generally start to pick up April 15th for irrigation season and they start to drop mid October. Typical flows released from the dam during these months are 1,000 cfs and this provides very high quality whitewater for paddlers of all levels.
