Snowmobile Safety

A driver's license is required to drive on plowed streets open to snowmobile traffic. Or, you must have a safety certificate and travel with an adult. 

Safety list for night driving

  • Make sure your lights are working well
  • Reduce speed at night
  • Do not travel on unfamiliar roads or blaze a new trail at night
  • Carry a flashlight
  • Do not go out alone
Snowmobiling checklist
  • You may be in higher altitudes that you are not acclimated to. 
  • Are you physically fit? You may have to walk out if the machine breaks down. 
  • There's safety in numbers; travel in groups. 
  • Keep machines in prime condition for mountain work-out. 
  • Plan your trip - let others know where you will be and when to expect you back. 
  • Check weather conditions; winter storms can move in fast. 
  • Stay on safe routes - know avalanche areas. 
  • Wear proper warm clothing and a helmet.
