Visitors to the area can see a range of grazing herbivores such as moose, deer and elk as well as the more dangerous carnivores like bears, coyotes and wolves. The abundant waterways and rivers provide an ideal environment for geese, ducks, beavers and a multitude of song-birds.

The presence of certain forms of plant and animal life gives clues to the past; for example the glacial remnants, moraines, support forests of lodge pine and other conifers in which black bears and elks find refuge.
